08 Dec Can I Get a Liquid Facelift with Sculptra in Dallas, TX?
Sculptra, aka the “liquid facelift”, is not only great for holding onto your younger, more vibrant self, but it also gets to the root of your aging issues by stimulating the production of your skin’s most necessary building blocks. Read on to learn more about this popular treatment that I 🙋🏼♀️, Jen Pillote, give at Lemmon Avenue Plastic Surgery, as one of the Dallas area’s top Aesthetic Injectors 💉.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA approved compound typically injected into the facial skin to add volume. This loss of volume usually comes from lost collagen (the main structural protein that supports the skin). This is all part of the natural aging process, as well as other environmental factors. In fact, it is estimated that by the age of forty, most have lost twenty percent of the collagen on their skin! Some common signs that there is a shortage of collagen include “smile lines”, marionette lines (vertical creases between the mouth and chin), and wrinkles on the chin. The Sculptra is able to substitute where this collagen was, and not only add volume, but also reduce the wrinkles and other signs of aging on the face. Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic, bioabsorbable substance (FDA approved). Sculptra differs slightly from your standard HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers in that it’s effects are prolonged and it elicits MORE collagen production over time.
How Does the Sculptra Process Work?
We will typically schedule an initial consultation, first. You will need to give your full medical history. You will also be asked about any medical conditions and allergies that you might have.
Before your treatment begins, we will thoroughly clean the exact sites on the skin that we will be working on.
During the Sculptra procedure, the solution is inserted deep into the skin with a thin needle. The entire process can take anywhere from fifteen minutes to a full hour, depending on your goals and what works best for your skin type. Sculptra is sometimes combined with Radiesse to get more instant and sustainable results.
In the weeks after your treatment, the Sculptra solution will steadily develop into crystals (remember the word “steadily”; more on that below ⬇️ ). The crystals will cause inflammation under the skin, but this is a “good” type of inflammation in this case 😉. This inflammatory reaction actually causes new collagen to form!
It should also be worth noting that this process has a snowball effect. The production of more collagen increases the amount of hyaluronic acid that your body produces, as well. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin have a healthy level of moisture and hydration, further enhancing your new, younger look!
How Long Does it Take For Volume to Develop?
For about 6-18 weeks after treatment, the Sculptra crystals will slowly develop and encourage collagen synthesis. Now, keep in mind, the word “slowly.” While everyone loves the idea of instant results, this is a very slow and steady process 👌🏻. Think of it like watching your hair grow. On the bright side, do you really want people knowing that you just had a mini facelift? More often than not, it is better to have more subtle results 😁.
How Long Do the Sculptra Results Last?
After a succession of multiple treatments, the results can last anywhere from 2-5 years! There are several factors that go into how long your Sculptra results will last, including:
✅ how much collagen loss you already had
✅ unprotected sun exposure
What Are Some Potential After Effects and How Can I Combat Them?
The side effects of a Sculptra treatment are very minimal. Most patients can usually continue with their normal activities after the injections. There might be some slight swelling, bruising, or itching around the injection site. One possible side effect is the formation of nodules. These lumps will sometimes form, due to the fact that there is a foreign substance right under your skin! The best way to combat these nodules is through massaging the injection areas twice a day for around 5 minutes, in addition to cleansing the area. We typically recommend that our patients do this for 5-7 days post-treatment, or a bit longer if needed.
